Hostilities resumed in the Hastings & District Table Tennis League as teams completed the first half of their league fixtures.

In Division One, Tackleway A maintained their advantage over Hollington B after the sides fought out a 5-5 draw in which Roger Pingram and Roy Funnell (Tackleway) and Robin Gibbs and Jamie Martin (Hollington) all won 2 games. In the only game which went the distance, Martin prevented Pingram’s maximum when he came from 1-2 down to take the last two sets 18-16, 11-9.

In a much closer 5-5 draw towards the foot of the table, Tigers A and Tackleway B shared the points. Dave Mitchell was unbeaten for Tigers while Martin Richards and Adrian Goodrum won 2 each for Tackleway. Richards played a key role, losing 15-13 in the 5th to Mitchell, after leading 7-0 but scraping past Pam Winter 12-10 in the 5th.

No such drama for the leading teams as Bexhill A beat Saints C 9-1 with maximums for Rob Warner and Bob Lowe and 2 wins for Ryan Warner. John Wond picked up Saints’ consolation.

Hollington A also won comfortably as Paul Barry, Andy Furnival and Bashar Obeyed dismissed Bexhill B 10-0.

Saints B lost ground to Tigers and Tackleway B when they went down 8-2 at Hollington C, who had Nick Standen unbeaten and two wins apiece for Darren Chawner and Scott Bills.  For Saints, Dick Copsey had an excellent win over Bills at 12-10 in the 5th but Adam Keen could not quite clinch a consolation point for the losers in an equally tight 5-setter with Bills.
