Barry Walker

Barry Walker

It is with sadness that I have to report on the recent passing of Barry Walker following a long term illness.
Many of you will have played Barry over past seasons.
I have scoured the archives and have found the following:
In 1970/71 he played for the Fire Service along with John Blenkinsop and they were runners up in Division 2 and also runners up in the Division 2 doubles.
Thereafter I have details of him playing for the YRHA in Division 1 from 1989/90 to 1991/92 with Colin Bateman and the late Terry Jewitt. In 1992/93 he moved to St Georges again playing Division 1 for two seasons. In 1998/99 he came back to St Georges playing in a Division 2 side alongside Garry Stockburn and Nick Morton finishing up runners up. Promotion to Division 1 followed and he played with Garry and Nick in the top division, at St Georges, Wanderers and finally 4 seasons at Ripley until he finished playing at the end of the 2004/05 season.
His son Paul continues to keep table tennis in the family and I personally remember playing Barry with a young Paul watching on.
Barry's funeral will take place on Tuesday 10th September at Stonefall Cemetery at 2.20pm.
