Quartet head to Blackpool

Four of Halifax League's players will travel to Blackpool this weekend to take part in the latest Grand Prix event.

Sean Ellis, Matthew Shaw, Richard Aitken and Alex Shaw will all be in the field of players battling it out over six different banded events on Saturday.

Ellis, Matthew Shaw and Aitken will play in bands 3 and 4, with Alex also featuring in Band 4 while being the fourth seed in Band 5.

It's proved to be a superb season for Ellis, who has won the sets award and reached the Halifax Closed Final.

A regular on the circuit, Ellis is part of a strong field, but one he's tasted plenty of success in this year.

The competition will be Matthew's first in two years, having last featured in the same tournament back in 2016.

For Aitken, who enjoyed an outstanding second half of the season in both Halifax and Bradford, it will be his first ever Grand Prix after playing several vets tournaments this season.

Meanwhile, Alex is entering his second Grand Prix of the season and will be keen to pick up a shock result over Aitken, who he has drawn in the Band 4 group.

He recently passed his Level 1 coaching course and, for the first time in several years, has been training alongside his brother in preparation for the event.

Fraser Riley, a former Halifax Closed champion, will also feature in the event. He is currently studying at Grantham College, which specialises in table tennis.
