Halifax League expands ahead of new campaign

Halifax League will host five divisions for the first time this millennium as the 2017/18 season gets ready to kickstart.

35 teams will engage in battle in the new season, with the popular Ladies Division continuing to be a staple of Tuesday nights at the Centre.

The move is another boost for the league, which continues to enjoy a resurgence thanks to the introduction of new players who have decided play competitively after initially starting during the club's practice sessions that take place during the week.

Division 1 will crown new champions after last year's winners, Panthers went their separate ways.

Hotshots, who feature part of last year's winning side, Ben Fillingham and Simon Pugh, remain as one of the frontrunners for the crown, with Lewis Palmer, Jonny Heslop, Cameron Sandhu and Nicholas Miller also set to contribute to their title charge.

Their biggest rivals could prove to be Greetland, who will continue to be represented by Halifax Champion Sam Clayton, Matthew Shaw, Alex Shaw and Jack Dabrowski. Joining them this year is Ross McFadyen and James Foster.

Division 2 has been split for the upcoming season, with Division 2A and 2B seeing teams of incredibly equal ability battle it out in separate divisions.

Central 1 are among the favourites in Division 2A following their relegation from Division 1, although Cock & Bottle, who continue to boast the talent of Alan Veal, will likely put up strong resistance.

2B will see Keighley Nomads lead the challenge for the title, although Dolphins 2, featuring five of the club's young up-and-coming talents, will be hoping they can mount a challenge.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, I.D Jam are likely to be among the frontrunners amid plenty of competition.

Finally, the Ladies League will consist of regular action every Tuesday as members participate on a week-to-week basis.
