10th March 2020 Match Reports

 The final league matches of the 2019/20 Eastern Valley Table Tennis League season were played this week. Champions of Division One are Cwmbran Aztecs, having already confirmed their title last week. In their last match of the season they had a titanic battle with Cwmbran Blues, who welcomed back Mark Farrow after missing the majority of the season through illness. After a long match both sides could not be separated and finished in a 19-19 draw. Player of the match was the Aztecs' Tony Collins with 3 wins and he was well supported by Mark Edmunds with 1 win and Andrew Ryder with 4 crucial team points. For the Blues Mark Farrow and Jozef Sujanic had 2 wins each and David Lloyd 1 win.

Runners up are the Blaenavon Aces team of Jon Allen, Ben Allen and Iestyn Howells. who had a bye match this week. 

Third place was secured by Cwmbran Preachers following their 27-4 win over North Gwent Cougars.  Player of the match was the Preachers' Ray Goulding who had 3 wins and he was well supported by Dave Lloyd and Claire Flannagan, also with 3 wins. 

The final match in Division One saw Cwmbran Tigers defeat Cardiff Nomads 26-8. Player of the match was the Tigers' Michal Luckanic with 3 wins and he was well supported by Jeraze Dhanboora, also with 3 wins and Roshan Rai with 2 wins. For the Nomads Geoff Strangeway secured their only success.

Champions of Division Two are Cwmbran Eccentrics after they secured a 20-20 draw against the only team who could overtake them, Cwmbran Dynamos. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' Ian Shipley with 2 wins and he was well supported by John Thomas, also with 2 wins and Lincoln Alford with 6 crucial team points. For the Dynamos Alex Jones had 2 wins, Will Smith-Haddon had 2 wins, including a very good win over the highly ranked John Thomas, and Richard Lownsbrough had 1 win. 

In third place are Cwmbran Lions who beat North Gwent Terriers 22-8 in their final match of the season. Player of the match was the Lions' Nigel Gore with 3 wins and he was well supported by Haydn Skinner and John Williams with 2 wins each. For the Terriers there were good wins for Tommy Woodland and Joel Price over higher ranked opponents.

The final match in Division Two saw Cwmbran Panthers defeat Cwmbran Devils 24-15. Player of the match was the Panthers' Howard Gaut with 3 wins and he was well supported by Damian Luckanic, also with 3 wins and Mick Mellor with 1 win. For the Devils' there were wins each for Colin Scott and Finley McNeil.
