7th January 2020 Match Reports

This weeks matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw Cwmbran Aztecs continue their march to the title with a 25-8 win over Cwmbran Tigers. The player of the match was the Aztecs Mark Edmunds with 3 wins and he was well supported by Tony Collins, also with 3 wins and guest player Peter Gordon with 2 wins. For the Tigers, Jeraze Dhanboora picked up his teams' solitary win.

Blaenavon Aces continue to lead the chasing pack with a 26-5 win over North Gwent Cougars. Player of the  match was the Aces Jon Allen with maximum wins and he was well supported by Ben Allen, also with 3 wins and Iestyn Howells with 2 wins. For the Cougars, Laura Price was the only player to win a match.

Cwmbran Blues occupy third place following their narrow 19-18 win over their nearest rivals for the position, Cwmbran Preachers.  Player of the match was the Blues' Jozef Sujanec with 2 wins and he was well supported by David Lloyd, also with 2 wins and Colin Price who had a good win over the higher ranked Claire Flannagan. For the Preachers Dave Lloyd secured 2 wins, Eric Turner had 1 win and Claire Flannagan had a good win over the higher ranked Jozef Sujanec. 

In Division Two, Cwmbran Dynamos lead the way despite their 16-17 loss to third placed Cwmbran Lions. Player of the match was the Dynamos' Alex Jones whose 3 wins included a good victory over Nigel Gore in straight sets, Richard Lownsbrough and Will Smith-Haddon picked up a win each for the Dynamos. For the Lions Nigel Gore and John Williams collected 2 wins each and Haydn Skinner battled bravely for his 4 team points.

Cwmbran Eccentrics remain in second place with a game in hand on the leaders following their 25-10 win over Cwmbran Panthers. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' Lincoln Alford with 3 wins and he was well supported by John Thomas also with 3 wins and Ian Shipley with 2 wins. For the Panthers Howard Gaut had a very good win over the higher ranked Ian Shipley.

The final match in Division Two saw Cwmbran Fellows defeat North Gwent Terriers 16-13. Player of the match was the Fellows' Wayne Ford with maximum wins and he was well supported by Alan Rees and guest player Glenda Prytherch with 1 win each. For the Terriers there were 2 wins each for Joel Price and Tommy Woodland.
