18th December 2018 Match Reports

 New leaders of Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League are Cwmbran Blues. This is despite losing their match this week against YMCA Preachers 15-16. The Preachers consolidated their third place following a good all round performance from their team with Dave Lloyd picking up two wins including a good win over the Blues' David D Lloyd. There were also single wins for Ray Goulding and Eric Turner. For the Blues Mark Farrow proved unbeatable in winning the player of the match award and David D Lloyd secured two wins.

Second place is held by Cwmbran Aztecs, who had a bye this week, with two games in hand over the leaders.

 The other match in Division One saw Cwmbran Tigers move off the bottom with a 24-12 win over Cardiff Nomads. For the Tigers both Jeraze Dhanbhoora and Roshan Rai won all their matches but it was Dhanbhoora who picked up the player of the match award. They were well supported by Michal Luckanic with two wins. Despite only winning one match the Nomads battled well to take many of the matches to four or five sets. It was guest player Iestyn Howells who picked up the Nomads solitary win with a good result over the higher ranked Lukanic.

Leaders of Division Two are Cwmbran Eccentrics who were without a match this  week. Second placed North Gwent Cougars narrowed the gap to seven points with a 24-10 win over Cwmbran Panthers.  Player of the match was the Cougars' Michel Policht with three wins and he was well supported by Goran Karabar and Sam Slatter with two wins each. The award for the performance of the night must go to the Panthers Yuri Cherkasenko whose form this season has been hampered by an injury. However, he showed that he may be on the way back with two wins over the highly ranked Karabar and Slatter and his only loss was in five sets to Policht. 

Cwmbran Dynamos consolidated their third place with a 23-10 win over Cwmbran Devils.  For the second week running the Dynamos' Richard Lownsbrough collected the player of the match award with his three wins. He was well supported by Alex Jones who also had three wins, For the Devils guest player Lincoln Alford picked up a win and Finley McNeil had a good win over the higher ranked Will Smith-Haddon.

The final match was a very tight affair between Cwmbran Fellows and Cwmbran Lions which the Fellows won 18-16. Player of the match was the Lions' John Williams whose two wins included a very good win over the highly ranked Wayne Ford. Following this win the Lions must have felt they would go on to win the match, but then the Fellows' Alan Rees collected his first win of the season and team mate Mick Mellor secured a good win over the higher ranked Williams to turn the match around. Ford and Mellor both picked up two wins for their team and Haydn Skinner also won two matches for the Lions.
