The tournament was held on Sunday 24th April at Deer Park, Cirencester. A total of 45 players took part, including juniors and seniors. Due to low numbers, the following events were not run:-
U15 girls, U18 girls, U18 girls doubles, Masters Singles
The event ran generally well on the day thanks to the efforts of Tracy Dibble, Carol Philp & Ian Maggs, and the organisation beforehand by Andrew Jarvis and Dave Adamson. There were some issues with timing late on in the day, due mainly to some of the older junior boys being in the latter stages of both the senior and junior events. Kyle Day in particular was very patient as is was unfortunately necessary to scratch him from senior events in order to get the U15 boys and U18 doubles completed. Timing also meant it was not possible to stop play to present awards in any meaningful manner.
Mens singles – with 24 entries on the day, the event was run in 6 groups of 4 initially. 2nd seed Darren Griffin unfortunately had to pull out at the last minute with an injury, leaving the draw open for Dave Harvey to progress without trouble to the final where he met top seed Olly Tyndall. Olly proved to be too strong for Dave and was a worthy winner on the day.
Ladies Singles – 6 entries so was run as to mini-groups of 3 with 4 through to semi-finals and final. Kim Selfe was the winner, but all credit must go to losing finalist U13 junior Anna-Maria Besarabova.
Veteran Mens Singles– as always was keenly contested throughout, Dave Harvey coming out on top over Gordon Shaw.
Veteran Ladies Singles had only 2 entries, Kim Selfe was the winner with Janie Kirby runner-up
Mens Doubles was one event that suffered from time constraints at the end of the day, Ben Glover/Dave Lloyd conceding the final to Olly Tyndall/Dave Harvey.
Ladies Doubles – Kim Selfe/Janie Kirby were the winners with Anna-Maria Besarabova/Jane Leigh runners-up
Minor Singles – was a hotly contested affair, Chris Varley winning an extremely close final against Ed Birt.
Restricted Singles – had only 5 entries and was won by Ben Roberts, who beat Ashley Hilton in the final
Mixed Doubles. Most of the pairing were made up on the day, with 17 men looking for partners but only 6 ladies to go around. Carol Philp/David Lloyd survived 5-set games against Khazaria Curzon/Ian Maggs and Kim Selfe/Dave Harvey before running out winners against Janie Kirby/Lawrence Manley in the final.
Boys U18 – 9 entries so was run initially with 3 groups of 3, with 6 going through. Although this gave the players plenty of games, in hindsight this was not good as it contributed to the logjam late in the day. Olly Tyndall triumphed over Ben Glover in a high quality final, making it a clean sweep for Olly.
Boys U15- 5 entries who played a very keenly contested group. Kyle Day was unbeaten but James Thomsen, Matthew Clayton & Tirian Jakes all won 2 games. Tirian got through on countback to the final but was beaten by worthy winner Kyle.
Boys U13 singles – 5 entries, played in a group with the top two contesting the final, which was won by Benjamin Greve over runner-up Tom Powlesland
Girls U13 had only 2 entries, Anna-Maria Besarabova was the winner and Khazaria Curzon runner-up
U11 Mixed singles had only 3 entries, Ryan Hunt, Benjamin Greve & Tom Powlesland. Benjamin was the winner with Tom runner-up.
Boys U18 Doubles – winners Kyle Day & Ed Birt, who beat Anton Barnett & Joe White in the final.
