Players who attend the Over-50s sessions on Friday mornings at Waterwells marked the end of the summer season with a special BBQ after the final session.
Not only did they enjoy the usual three hours of table tennis, they also got to tackle some South African specialties, with regular players Brian and Cecilia Hutcheson bringing (and cooking) a taste of their home country in the shape of boerewors, chakalaka and other goodies. Many thanks to both of them for their hard work and generosity.
The sessions are open to anyone aged 50 or over, bats and balls (and coaching) are provided, and each costs £5 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits. Sessions run from 9.30 to 12.15, and players change round every 15 minutes so that everyone gets a good variety of play, from relative beginners to experienced league players.
A special thank you goes to young Gary Tyndall, who isn’t old enough officially to join in but does sterling work in helping set up and put away the tables for every session.
If anyone’s interested in joining in next term, which begins on Friday September 7, please contact Gary or Jane.
