Match Report

Great night, highlights being. The 5 setter between Eddie and Brian and Tony's comeback v Ian. Played in the Halloween grotto amongst skulls and ghosts.  Lee Brown continues, yes and I was one of the ghosts! One day when I was leaving the pub I was mugged by a man wearing a Halloween skeleton costume. "Your money or your life, he said." "Take the wife I said. (he had a lisp) I've got no money, just spent it all in there." " What've you got then?"  "Just me old table tennis bat, I've been playing tonight."  "Give us that then," and off he ran. Which is why I have a morbid fear of Halloween and what should greet me when I went into the Con Club, a flamin' Halloween grotto! Only Brian saved the night for us as he produced another three wins but he was made to work hard by Eddie Seville. Eddie should have a cold nose and bark for a biscuit, for he is one of the best retrievers in the division and the dead table suits him down to the ground. He pushed Brian all the way until Brian did him with a couple of tricky serves at the end of the fifth set. The other match that had the ghouls cheering was Tony's against Ian and the Hyde man really let it slip in the third when he had two match points and blew them both. Tony took that set 15-13 and then the next two, as Ian was somewhat demoralised. I took a set off Mike 11-1 and then lost the next one 11-2, that's how inconsistent my game is at the moment.  To be honest the Con Club lads know their table and how slow it is and play to its strengths, Tony to the shock of everyone, played an attacking shot at ten o clock. Mike took a game off Brian but was blown away in the fourth. Ian and myself both had bad nights but Eddie, Tony and Mike all played really well. Good night's tennis, good company, lousy grotto.
