Whistlers B produced a superb performance in the top of the table clash in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues this week and now hold a commanding 3 point lead.

The Whistlers side were competing against Lions A and what was expected to be a tight encounter turned out to be a one-sided affair which saw the leaders romp to a 9-1 victory. The story could however have been quite different as 5 matches needed deciding 5th legs to decide the victor and the Whistlers side crucially won 4 of these. Joshua Stacey and Ellis Tomlin were both impressive in the encounter as each was unbeaten. Stacey defeated Foss in 4 sets in a result that has seen him move to the top of the averages and he also earned singles wins over Ryan Bichard in straight sets and Jamie Ferbrache in 5 sets. Tomlin on the other hand played some excellent table tennis in defeating Ferbrache in straight sets, but his best efforts came against Bichard and Foss where he battled back from 2-1 deficits to earn unexpected 5 set wins over each player. The duo also won the doubles rubber over Foss and Bichard in 5 sets, 12-10 the score in the deciding end. Mark Pipet also performed well on the night due to his 4 set wins over Ferbrache and Bichard. He also pushed Foss to a deciding 5th end in the match opener before going down 11-7.

The above result enabled defending champions Whistlers A to move into 2nd position and they are 3 points adrift prior to the meeting between the 2 leading Whistlers side next time out. They earned a 10-0 whitewash over Lions D and each of Lawrence Stacey, Matthew Casey and Ryan Gilson picked up wins over Corey Brouard, Sam Clark and reserve Caden Brouard. Stacey and Gilson won the doubles rubber over Brouard and Clark in 4 sets. Corey came the closest to picking up a win when leading Gilson 2-0, however the left-hander battled back well to win 11-9 in the decider.

Lions B were comfortable 8-2 winners over Lions C in a fixture where Phil Ogier earned straight sets wins over Paul Hainsworth, Andy Gill and Charlotte Casey. Dan Collenette showed good form during 5 set wins over Hainsworth and Casey, but was defeated in 4 sets by Gill. Reserve Luke Le Tissier also put in a good account for himself due to a 4 set win over Gill and a 5 set win over Casey, but he was defeated in straight sets by Hainsworth. The doubles rubber was won by Ogier and Collenette over Gill and Casey in 5 sets.

Division 2

Whistlers C and Lions F remain locked together at the top after each side earned comfortable wins this week.

The Whistlers side were 7-3 winners over St Pauls A this week. Kay Chivers led the way strongly for her side with wins over Chas Elliott, Maurice James and Trevor Bourgaize. Ben Sharp added wins over James and Bourgaize, whilst Keith Opie picked up a 4 set win over James. Chivers and Opie won the doubles clash over Elliott and James in 4 sets. Elliott played well for his side due to strong wins over Sharp and Opie, whilst Bourgaize added a straight sets win over Opie.

Lions F were ruthless 9-1 winners over Ravenscroft Panthers B. Jez Powell and Andy Ferbrache each earned wins over Sam Kershaw, Richard Edwards and Rob Vile. Caden Brouard added wins over Edwards and Vile, but was edged out in 5 sets by Kershaw in the opening match of the night. Ferbrache and Brouard won the doubles rubber over Kershaw and Edwards in 4 sets.

Division 3

It took 17 matches, however league leaders Whistlers G have finally dropped points and the narrow 6-4 defeat to 2nd placed side Ravenscroft Panthers E has seen their lead reduce to 5 points. The Panthers side's surprise victory was a real team effort, but it would not have been possible without a man of the match of the performance from Oscar Pearson. He defeated Darren Sarre in 5 sets, Matthew Board in 4 sets and averages leader Stuart Sarre in 4 sets. Shelby Timms had a good evening which included matching 4 set wins over both Sarre brothers and the victory over Stuart coming in the pivotal final match of the night. Elder sister Tia made sure of the overall win due to her 4 set win over Darren.
