Senior League 2019-20 Week 3

Division 1

Defending champions Whistlers A and title rivals Lions A both won their third consecutive matches in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues this week.

The Whistlers side came through a tough encounter against their B side who pushed them all the way before losing out 6-4. Josh Stacey was the catalyst for the defeated side due to his trio of straight sets singles wins against twin Lawrence, Matthew Casey and Ryan Gilson. He also combined with Ellis Tomlin to win the doubles rubber against Stacey and Casey in straight sets. The leaders held their nerve where required though and each team member defeated Mark Pipet and Tomlin in singles action. Gilson needed 5 sets in the opener against Pipet, whilst Lawrence was pushed to a deciding set by Tomlin.

The Lions side also had a tough encounter with their B side and the result was an identical 6-4 triumph. So early into the season and Ben Foss is already the sole player with a 100% singles record. He maintained this courtesy of a strong evening which included straight sets wins over Phil Ogier, Dan Collenette and Andre De Carteret. Ryan Bichard and Jamie Ferbrache each overcame De Carteret in singles action and it was the combination of Foss and Bichard that ran out victorious in the crucial doubles encounter against Collenette and De Carteret in 4 sets. For the defeated side both Ogier and Collenette earned singles wins over Bichard and Ferbrache.

Lions D got their first point on the board after holding Lions C to a 5-5 draw. Liam Robilliard was in strong form for his D side as he earned singles wins over Paul Hainsworth, Andy Gill and Charlotte Casey, dropping just the single end to Hainsworth in the process. Corey Brouard and Sam Clark made sure of the draw as each earned wins over Casey. For the C side Hainsworth and Gill each beat Brouard and Clark and also combined to win the doubles encounter against Robilliard and Clark in 4 sets.

Division 2

Whistlers C are top of the table and have a single point advantage from Lions E and St Pauls A.

The leaders were ruthless 10-0 winners over a Lions G side that held the early lead of the Division. Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Ben Sharp each ran out victorious over Nye Matthew, Ian Le Page and Dave Finn, however both Sharp and Opie needed the full 5 sets against Matthew. Opie and Sharp won the doubles tie against Matthew and Le Page in 4 sets.

Division 3

Lions H, Lions J and Ravenscroft Panthers D are all tied at the top of the table on 6 points.

The Lions J side were unbeaten, however they were edged out 6-4 by the Panthers side this week. Amy Wesley was the star of the Alderney based female side due to her singles wins over Edward Rowe, James Crocker and Jayden Tucknott. Marli Barker added wins over Crocker and Tucknott and also combined with Wesley to win the important doubles match against Crocker and Tucknott in 4 sets.

The above result enabled the Lions H side to rise to the fore and they won 8-2 over Whistlers F this week. Jonah Ingrouille won all of his matches against Shane Cotter, Hedley Watson and Andy Le Page, whilst Brian and Sue Ferbrache added wins over Watson and Le Page. Ingrouille teamed with Brian to defeat Cotter and Le Page in straight sets in the doubles. Cotter prevented the whitewash by defeating Brian and Sue in straight sets.
