Division 1
Defending champions Whistlers A further increased their advantage at the top of first Division of the Doric Insurance Sponsored Senior Leagues this week.
The leaders dropped points for the first time this season last week to Lions C, but bounced back strongly this week courtesy of a 9-1 rout of bottom placed side Lions D. Lawrence Stacey and Matthew Casey each won singles matches against Liam Robilliard, Sam Clark and reserve Carl Le Tissier and the duo also teamed up to win the doubles encounter against Liam Robilliard and Clark in straight sets. Ryan Gilson added wins over Clark and Le Tissier, however he was beaten in straight sets by Robilliard, which prevented the whitewash.
Their lead at the top was increased to 3 points due to Lions A's 7-3 defeat to Whistlers B, a result which sees the Whistlers B side move level on points with the Lions side in 2nd position. The Lions side were without their unbeaten influential player Ben Foss due to illness and the Whistlers side took full advantage of the opportunity in front of them. Josh Stacey and Mark Pipet were unbeaten on the night as each recorded singles wins over Ryan Bichard, Jamie Ferbrache and reserve Luke Le Tissier. Pipet needed 5 sets against both Bichard and Le Tissier, but defeated Ferbrache in straight sets, whilst Stacey dropped just the single set during a 4 set win over Bichard. The doubles rubber was won by Stacey and Ellis Tomlin over Bichard and Ferbrache in 4 sets. Each of the Lions players earned themselves consolation singles wins over Tomlin.
Lions C carried the momentum gained from their draw with league leaders Whistlers A last week by earning a 6-4 win over Lions B. The narrow victory sees them move into 4th position in the table. The B side were missing Dan Collenette and the C side made the most of this on the evening. Paul Hainsworth, Andy Gill and Charlotte Casey all earned singles wins over Andre De Carteret and reserve Steve Ozanne to make sure of the win. Ozanne led Gill 2-0 and Casey 2-1 and was unfortunate to lose out in 5 sets in both instances. Despite the defeat for his side, Phil Ogier emerged with a perfect record earning 3 singles wins and a doubles win alongside De Carteret over Gill and Casey in 4 sets. He was tested in his opening singles match with Hainsworth however and needed to overturn a 2-0 deficit to win over the distance.
Lions F have moved to the top of the Division for the first time this season after earning an excellent 7-3 win over former league leaders and defending champions Lions E. The win leaves the E side 1 point adrift and the fixture included an unbeaten evening for Jez Powell. Powell earned wins over Steve Ozanne, Carl Le Tissier and Tim Le Page before teaming with Caden Brouard to win the doubles over Le Page and Ozanne in 4 sets. Junior Brouard had a good evening in singles action too as he picked up a 4 set win over Le Tissier and a straight set win over Le Page. Andy Ferbrache picked up the 7th win for the F side when he beat Le Tissier in straight sets.
Division 3
Lions H continue to hold a 2 point advantage at the top of the table, but needed to work hard to earn a narrow 6-4 victory over Ravenscroft Panthers D this week. Brian Ferbrache and Sue Ferbrache each earned singles wins over Ridunian Junior players Amy Wesley and Melissa Johns and they also combined strongly to win the important doubles clash against the same duo in straight sets. Jonah Ingrouille lost to both Wesley and Johns, however he kept his best for last due to his 5 set win over the then unbeaten reserve Oscar Pearson. Pearson had earlier earned excellent 5 set wins over both Brian and Sue.
