Senior League 2017-18 Week 15

Division 1

Lions A and Whistlers A continue to match each other in what is turning out to be one of the most competitive top flight title battles seen in recent times in the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues.

The Lions side still hold the mathematical games difference lead and they were 7-3 winners over the then 3rd placed Lions B side. Ben Foss led the charge for the leaders due to his trio of singles wins over Phil Ogier, Ryan Bichard and Andre De Carteret. His clash with Ogier was the pick of the bunch and he needed a 5th and final set to secure victory, 12-10 the score in the decider. Paul Hainsworth defeated Bichard and De Carteret in singles action as well as teaming with Foss to overcome Ogier and De Carteret in a 4 set doubles win. The final rubber was earned by Dan Collenette courtesy of his straight sets win over De Carteret.

The Whistlers side edged past their C side 6-4 this week. Garry Dodd may have held onto his impressive 100% singles record in the fixture, but he was pushed very hard by Lawrence Stacey, who held a 2-0 lead. The result was never really in doubt after that however and Dodd came back well, securing the remaining 3 ends without too many issues. His other wins came over Ryan Gilson and Charlotte Casey without loss. Mark Pipet and Martin Sarre each picked up wins over Casey and it was Dodd and Sarre that picked up the important 6th win when they combined to win the doubles over Gilson and Casey in straight sets. Gilson had a good evening due to his straight set win over Pipet and 5 set win over Sarre.

The final fixture of the week saw Whistlers B move back into 3rd spot after their convincing 8-2 win over Lions C. Joshua Stacey led the way strongly with wins over Jamie Ferbrache, Andy Gill and Ian Le Page. He also teamed with Sam Clark to win the doubles over Gill and Le Page in straight games. Clark and Matt Casey defeated Gill and Le Page, but neither was able to beat Ferbrache on the night. The Lions player experienced a tough start to the season, but he has now won 7 of his last 16 matches in the top flight.

Division 2

Whistlers D retained their 5 point advantage after a strong 8-2 win over St Pauls A. Kay Chivers and Ellis Tomlin were undefeated during wins over Chas Elliott, Trevor Bourgaize and reserve Craig Dunning. They also paired to win the doubles over Elliott and Bourgaize in straight sets. Keith Opie picked up a 5 set win over Dunning, but he lost to Elliott and Bourgaize.

Carter and Dunning won the doubles over Stone and Ingrouille in straight sets.
