Senior League 2018-19 Week 2

Division 1

Lions A maintained their 100% winning start in the Doric Insurance sponsored top flight after their comfortable 8-2 win over Lions C. Ben Foss and Ryan Bichard each overcame Paul Hainsworth, Corey Brouard and reserve Ian Le Page in singles action, whilst Jamie Ferbrache added wins over Brouard and Le Page. Hainsworth prevented the whitewash by overcoming Ferbrache in straight sets and also combined well with Brouard to defeat Foss and Bichard over 4 sets in the doubles clash.

Whistlers B are the only other side to hold a 100% winning record so far this season and they edged past Whistlers C 6-4 this week. Lawrence Stacey and Ryan Gilson were the best performers for the victorious side as each overcame Mark Pipet and Charlotte Casey in singles action. The duo also combined to win the important doubles rubber against Josh Stacey and Casey in 5 sets. Matthew Casey picked up the pivotal 6th win when he overcame sister Charlotte 11-7 in the 5th and deciding leg of their match. Josh Stacey played well for the defeated C side by winning all of his singles matches. This included a 5 set win over his previously unbeaten twin Lawrence.

Lions B returned to full strength this week and this led to them defeating Whistlers A 6-4 and moving into 3rd position. Phil Ogier led the way strongly by beating Dawn Morgan, Ellis Tomlin and reserve Paula Le Ber in singles action. Dan Collenette beat Le Ber and Tomlin, but was edged out 14-12 in the decider by Morgan. Ogier and Collenette made sure of the win courtesy of their 4 set doubles win over Morgan and Tomlin.

Division 2

With a number of sides playing twice this week, Whistlers D are already the only team in the Division to hold a 100% winning record. Their 9-1 win over Ravenscroft Panthers C on Monday evening was followed up with a 10-0 whitewash of Ravenscroft Panthers B on Thursday. Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Ben Sharp all overcame Peter Vivian, Steve Martin and reserve Mark Windsor in singles action. Sharp and Opie teamed up to win the doubles match over Vivian and Martin in straight sets.

Division 3

St Pauls B, Lions H and Ravenscroft Panthers D all have perfect records of 2 wins so far this season. The St Pauls outfit is looking particularly ruthless at the top however, as they earned their 2nd consecutive 10-0 whitewash of the season this week, Whistlers G on the wrong side this time. Craig Dunning, Derek Carter and Brian Le Cras all beat Josh Crocker, James Crocker and Matthew Board in singles action. Dunning and Carter then overcame Josh Crocker and Board in a straight sets doubles win.

Division 4

Whistlers J hold a single point lead at the top following their 9-1 win over Whistlers L. Sisters Shelby and Tia Timms won their singles matches over Len Bretel, Matthew Hale and Sabato Folmi. Leah Moore added wins over Hale and Folmi, but lost to Bretel in straight sets. Moore and Shelby defeated Hale and Folmi 3-0 in the doubles encounter.
