Senior League 2017-18 Week 14

Division 1

Action from the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues kicked off again this week following the Christmas and New Year break.

In the top flight the pattern of results continued with Lions A and Whistlers A continuing to defeat the opposition in front of them.

The Lions side still lead the way on games difference and they maximised it this week courtesy of a 10-0 whitewash over 5th placed side Lions C. Ben Foss, Paul Hainsworth and Dan Collenette all came through against Jamie Ferbrache, Andy Gill and Ian Le Page, with Gill clinching the sole leg over Hainsworth during a 4 set defeat. Hainsworth and Collenette combined to win the doubles match over Gill and Ferbrache in straight sets.

The Whistlers side on the other hand had a much tougher fixture against then 3rd placed side Whistlers B. Despite the challenges faced, they managed to come through 6-4 winners on the night. Garry Dodd continues to power his way past the opposition with another evening of unbeaten action. He beat Joshua Stacey, Matt Casey and Sam Clark in straight sets before combining with Mark Pipet to beat Stacey and Casey without loss in the doubles encounter. The Whistlers side obtained the remaining 2 rubbers courtesy of Pipet's straight set win over Clark and Martin Sarre's 4 set win over Clark.

Lions B took full advantage of the defeat for Whistlers B and moved into 3rd position due to a 7-3 win over the side at the foot of the table, Whistlers C. Phil Ogier, Ryan Bichard and Andre De Carteret all overcame Ryan Gilson and Charlotte Casey in singles action and the pairing of Ogier and Bichard also came through a tough 5 set doubles encounter with Lawrence Stacey and Casey. Stacey impressed for his side despite the defeat due to his wins over Ogier, Bichard and De Carteret with just the single leg dropped to Ogier in the process.

Division 2

Whistlers D hold a commanding 5 point lead at the top of the 2nd Division, however they only narrowly ran out 6-4 winners over Whistlers F this week. Kay Chivers did her best to ensure that the win was obtained due to singles wins over Andy Lihou, Tom Hagerich and reserve Ben Sharp. Keith Opie beat Lihou and Hagerich, but he was defeated by Sharp in straight sets, in what was an excellent result for the Division 3 Junior player. Chivers and Opie teamed to win the pivotal doubles encounter against Lihou and Hagerich in straight sets to make sure of the win. All of the 'F' side defeated the 'D' side reserve Miles Bishop-White.

Division 3

St Pauls B may well be the first Divisional winners this season as they hold what is surely an uncatchable 10 point lead at the top of the 3rd. Their games difference ratio essentially makes it 11 points and they further extended that this week thanks to a whitewash of Lions J. Derek Carter, John Wills and Craig Dunning all beat Graham Mallett, Janine Mallett and Derek Cave on the night. Carter and Dunning clinched the doubles over Graham and Cave in 4 sets.
