Division 1
Defending champions Lions A and their Whistlers counterparts are locked together at the top of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues first division ahead of their first meeting of the season this week.
The Lions side recorded their second consecutive 8-2 win of the season after coming through against Whistlers B. Paul Hainsworth kept his unbeaten start to the season intact with victories over Joshua Stacey, Matt Casey and reserve Ellis Tomlin, but he needed 4 sets to come through against Stacey and 5 against Casey. Ben Foss and Dan Collenette each overcame Casey and Tomlin, with Foss dropping an end to Tomlin and Collenette an end to Casey. Neither was able to overcome Stacey who won both rubbers in straight sets, but the duo were on hand to win the doubles encounter against Stacey and Casey over 5 sets.
Whistlers A on the other hand came through a tight clash with Lions B 6-4. Garry Dodd is the only other player remaining in the Division with a 100% singles record and he kept this in place despite a spirited performance from Phil Ogier. Dodd led 2-0 against Ogier, but needed a 5th and deciding leg to close proceedings, 12-10 the score in the conclusive end. His other wins came over Ryan Bichard and Andre De Carteret in straight sets. Mark Pipet and Martin Sarre each picked up wins over De Carteret in straight and 4 sets respectively, but it was the doubles combination of Dodd and Pipet that secured the all important 6th win when they combined to beat Bichard and De Carteret in straight sets.
Lions C came out on top in the battle of the 'C' sides when they edged past their Whistlers opposition. Andy Gill and reserve Jez Powell each defeated Ryan Gilson and Charlotte Casey in singles action and the pair also took the doubles clash over the same duo in straight sets. It was the Lions' side other reserve Andy Ferbrache that obtained the 6th win when he squeezed past Casey in 5 sets, who was also unfortunate in being edged out over 5 sets by Gill. Lawrence Stacey won all 3 of his matches for the Whistlers side and Gilson beat Ferbrache in straight games.
Division 2
Lions D, St Pauls A and Ravenscroft Panthers A are all unbeaten at the top of the second Division following completion of 2 matches.
It is the Lions side that mathematically leads the way due to their 2 x wins this week. First up was a 9-1 win over Whistlers F in a re-arranged fixture where Tim Le Page and Steve Ozanne were unbeaten. This week they ran out 7-3 winners over Whistlers E. Le Page led the way strongly with wins over Sam Kershaw, Ken Falla and Shane Cotter. Steve Potter defeated Falla in 4 and Cotter in straight games, whilst Ozanne added a 4 set win over Falla. Le Page and Ozanne won the doubles match over Kershaw and Cotter in straight sets.
The big clash of the second week, however, ended in a 5-5 draw between 2 other title hopefuls Whistlers D and Lions E. For the Lions side, Jez Powell led the way strongly with wins over Kay Chivers, Keith Opie and Ellis Tomlin. Corey Brouard added a crucially impressive 5 set win over Chivers in the final match of the night to earn his side a point, taking the final set 13-11. He also teamed with Powell to win the doubles over Chivers and Tomlin in straight sets. Tomlin also impressed with a 4 set win over Corey and a straight set win over Corey's younger brother Caden.
Division 4
The 4th Division is a picture of 2 halves currently as the top 3 sides are all locked on 4 points, with the bottom 3 sides rooted on 0 points. Lions K, Whistlers J and Lions L are sides at the top in that order, due to games ratio.
The K side, who officially lead the way won 8-2 over Whistlers L this week. Val Guilbert and Diane Le Page each beat Tia Timms, Jayden Tucknott and Nicole Le Noury. They also won the doubles over Tucknott and Le Noury in 4 sets. James Le Tissier chipped in with a 4 set win over Le Noury, but lost out in 5 sets to Tucknott and 4 sets to Timms.
