Division 1
Lions C took full advantage of competing against their weakened title rivals Lions A this week and extended their lead at the top of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues to 3 points.
The A side are missing captain Josh Butler for the rest of the month, but Ben Foss was also absent for the top of the table encounter this week. Phil Ogier and Paul Hainsworth ran out winners over Dan Collenette and reserves Liam Robilliard and Andy Ferbrache in singles action, with Hainsworth dropping just the single end to Robilliard and Ogier the single end to Ferbrache in the process. Andre De Carteret started his evening with a strong 4 set win over Collenette and followed up with a matching win over Ferbrache. He could not quite complete the trio of wins on the night and fell in straight games to Robilliard. Ogier and De Carteret came through the doubles encounter over Collenette and Robilliard in 4.
Whistlers A reduced the gap to 2nd position to just 2 points following a 7-3 win over Whistlers B this week. Garry Dodd remains unbeatable locally and he once more cruised to a treble of singles wins. Joshua Stacey, Martin Sarre and Joseph Bourgaize were unable to make any in-roads and Dodd did not drop a set all evening. This included a straight game doubles win alongside Mark Pipet over Stacey and Bourgaize. Pipet himself beat Bourgaize and Sarre over the full 5 game distance to ensure his side earned the win. Ryan Gilson also acquitted himself well and overcame fellow junior Bourgaize in 4 ends. He also came very close to beating Sarre, but he let a 2-0 lead slip, comfortably losing the decider 11-2 to his more experienced opponent.
Whistlers C are in 4th position and they moved further away from 5th placed side Lions B due to a 7-3 win over them this week. Lawrence Stacey was unbeaten on the night, however he had to endure a scare in his opening singles match against Luke Bichard, who led 2-0 before Stacey won in 5. His other wins came without loss over Ryan Bichard and reserve Brian Ferbrache. Reserve Sam Clark played well during a 4 game win over Ryan and a straight game win over Ferbrache and Albert Unden picked up the all important 6th win when he overcame Ferbrache in straight games. The doubles match was claimed by Stacey and Unden over the Bichard brothers over 4 sets.
Division 2
Lions D made the most of a ghost week for their title rivals Lions E this week and returned to the summit of the 2nd Division for the first time since early December, by 2 points.
The win was never in doubt for them as they cruised to a 9-1 win over Ravenscroft Panthers A. Jamie Ferbrache and Andy Gill were in good form and each overcame Peter Vivian, Shaun Mosley and reserve Juliette Yeaman in singles action. They were also on hand to combine in the doubles fixture, recording a straight game win over Vivian and Mosley. Lions reserve player Nye Matthew also had a strong evening and he beat Yeaman in 4 and Vivian in 5. He lost out to Mosley, also in 5, a result that prevented the whitewash.
Division 3
League leaders Whistlers G's lead at the top remains at 3 points after they were held to a 5-5 stalemate by title rivals Whistlers H. Ellis Tomlin has been pivotal for the leaders and he retained his impressive 100% singles record on the night due to wins over Callum Gilson, Caden Brouard and Ben Sharp. Tom Hagerich was the player to pick up the 2 further required wins, however he needed the full 5 sets to get the better of both Gilson and Sharp. Tomlin may have won all of his singles matches, but he was defeated in the doubles alongside Hagerich, Gilson and Brouard prevailing 17-15 in the 5th and final leg to claim a great scalp.
