Senior League Week 22

Division 1

Lions A are closing in on the Doric Insurance sponsored first Division title after they secured a narrow 6-4 win over Whistlers C this week. The victory leaves them 3 points clear at the top, with just 3 matches remaining.

Joshua Butler, Ben Foss and Dan Collenette each won 2 singles matches over Martin Sarre and Joseph Bourgaize, however it was the clash between fellow juniors Collenette and Bourgaize which ultimately proved to be the decisive one. The encounter came in the final match of the night and it looked like Bourgaize would secure the unlikely draw for this side whilst leading 2-0, but Collenette edged the 3rd 12-10 and went from strength to strength from there and won in 5. Joshua Stacey put in a man of the match performance which included a 5 set win over Butler and 4 set win over Foss and he also teamed with Bourgaize to obtain a 4 set doubles win over Foss and Collenette.

Lions C remain in 2nd spot due to having a better games ratio than Whistlers A and they narrowly navigated Whistlers C 6-4 this week. Phil Ogier and Paul Hainsworth each overcame Matthew Casey in straight games and Albert Unden in 4, whilst Andre De Carteret also beat Unden in 4. The doubles encounter was pivotal and it was the pairing of Hainsworth and De Carteret that came through against Lawrence Stacey and Unden in 4 games. Stacey enjoyed a trio of wins, but needed 4 sets to come through against De Carteret and the full 5 to overcome Ogier, who led 2-1. Casey also secured a 5 set win over De Carteret in the final game of the match.

Whistlers A came through against Lions B 7-3 this week in a match where Garry Dodd once more held onto his 100% record with wins over Ryan Bichard, Luke Bichard and reserve Jez Powell. Mark Pipet defeated Ryan in straight games and teamed with Dodd to defeat the Bichard brothers in straight games. The surprise performances of the week came from Ryan Gilson, who performed superbly to defeat both Bichard's in 4 sets. These were crucial wins which ensured his side did not drop points this week. Powell did well to defeat Pipet in straight games and Gilson in 4, whilst Luke also had a good straight game win over Pipet in the final match of the night.

Division 2

Lions D are within touching distance of the Division 2 title after their comfortable 8-2 win over St Pauls A. Jamie Ferbrache and Andy Gill each had perfect records on the night, with singles wins over Maurice James, Trevor Bourgaize and reserve Craig Dunning. Ian Le Page beat Dunning in 5 and also teamed with Gill to overcome James and Bourgaize over 4 sets in the doubles clash.

Division 3

Whistlers G are also close to the title after they squeezed past Ravenscroft Panthers C 6-4. Ellis Tomlin is now very close to completing the undefeated season and he recorded wins over Mark Windsor, Nick Windsor and Mick Ingrouille this week. Tom Hagerich beat Mark and Ingrouille and also crucially teamed with Tomlin to get the better of the Windsor's in straight games in the doubles match.

Division 4

Whistlers K are also on the brink of the crown and they secured a decisive blow by beating title rivals Lions J 6-4 this week, opening a surely irretrievable 5 point gap in the process. Shane Cotter made the difference with wins over Graham Mallett, Janine Mallett and Derek Cave. Joe Le Page added wins over Graham and Janine and teamed up with Cotter to win the important doubles match against the Mallett's in 4 games.
