Division 1
Lions A missed out on the chance to put some pressure on league leaders Lions B after being held to a 5-5 draw by Whistlers A. CI Open Top 12 Champion Garry Dodd continues to impress and he powered past Joshua Stacey, Dawn Morgan and Lawrence Stacey, dropping just the single end to the latter during a 4 game win. Liam Robilliard battled hard to come past Lawrence 15-13 in the decider, having trailed 2-1 and he teamed with reserve Martin Sarre to pick up the important doubles win over the Stacey twins in 4 games. Morgan and Joshua both beat Robilliard in 4 games and all 3 Whistlers players beat Sarre in singles action to earn the draw.
Lions C moved to within 3 points of their A side following a 7-3 win over Whistlers B. Joshua Butler and Alex Robinson both showed good form during the encounter as each beat Ben Foss, Mark Pipet and Phil Hunkin. Whilst Butler did not drop an end during his singles matches, Robinson needed 4 games to get the better of Pipet and was also required to reverse a 2-1 deficit to beat Foss in 5. The duo were comfortable straight game winners over Hunkin and Foss in the doubles match. Andre De Carteret was unable to add to the winning tally as he lost to Hunkin in straight games, Pipet in 4 games and Foss over the full 5 game distance.
Division 2
Whistlers D are the first champions of the 2014/15 season after they cruised to a 9-1 win over Ravenscroft Panthers B, opening up an unassailable 4 point lead, with just 1 left to play. The emphatic victory this week came without the presence of averages leader Jez Powell and junior 3rd division reserve Matthew Casey stepped into the fray. Casey was beaten in the opening match of the evening to Peter Vivian, but that was as good as it got for the beaten Panthers outfit. Ryan Bichard and Albert Unden each picked off Vivian, Shaun Mosley and Steve Martin in singles matches before combining to beat the pairing of Vivian and Martin in a 4 game doubles win. Casey bounced back well from his opening defeat strongly with straight game wins over Mosley and Martin.
St Pauls A have held one of the top 2 spots all season, however it looks like they are heading for a 4th place finish at the death after their 7-3 defeat to runners-up spot rivals, Whistlers C. Kay Chivers deputised for the victors due to her straight game wins over Chas Elliott, Maurice James and Trevor Bourgaize. Keith Opie chipped in with wins over James and Bourgaize before teaming with Chivers to defeat Elliott and Bourgaize over 4 games in the important doubles clash. Stuart Sarre added further fuel to the win due to his straight game win over Bourgaize.
Lions D were the fortunate recipients of the St Pauls defeat as they moved into 3rd spot after a 9-1 win over Lions F. Martin Sarre, Andy Gill and reserve Peter Powell all defeated Rob Vile, Ken Tucknott and reserve Terry Trustum in singles matches. The Lions side were unable to convert the whitewash as Sarre and Gill were surprisingly beaten in 4 games by Trustum and Vile in the doubles encounter.
Division 3
Lions G are on the brink of the 3rd division title and recorded a 9-1 win over St Pauls B this week. Jamie and Andrew Ferbrache went through the evening unbeaten due to their wins over John Wills, Brian Le Cras and Brandon Ferbrache. Sophie Ferbrache also had a good night at the office due to her wins over Le Cras and Ferbrache. She could not convert the brush though as she lost to Wills in straight games but teamed with Jamie to beat Wills and Le Cras in a hard fought 5 game doubles win, coming back from 2-0 down in the process.
Division 4
Lions J were the 2nd team crowned champions of Thursday evening after their 8-2 win over Whistlers J sealed the title with 3 matches left to play. Sam Totty led the way for the champions due to this singles wins over Tom De La Rue, Joe Le Page and Erin De Carteret. Val Guilbert and Diane Le Page added wins over Le Page and De Carteret and it was the pairing of Totty and Guilbert that won the doubles match against De La Rue and Le Page in straight games.
