Senior League Week 11

Division 1

The first meeting between the top 2 first division sides in the Doric Insurance sponsored Senior League ended as a 5-5 draw, however it was league leaders Lions B that took the initiative on this occasion, courtesy of an 8-2 win over their A side. Reserve Matt Stubbington impressed last week against Whistlers B and he again shone during this fixture, with another unbeaten 3 singles wins. He secured an impressive 4 game win over Garry Dodd, the outcome mirrored during his encounter with Chloe Le Tissier. His final singles win came against Liam Robilliard in 5 games, having needed to reverse a 2-1 deficit in the process. Phil Ogier comfortably beat Robilliard and Le Tissier in straight games, but lost out to Dodd in straight games during the opener. Like Stubbington, Paul Hainsworth also needed to come back from 2-1 down to get past Robilliard in 5 and he added a straight game win over Le Tissier. His final match was against Dodd where he failed to convert a 2-0 advantage, going down 11-9 in the decider. The doubles fixture was won by the pairing of Ogier and Hainsworth as they came through in 5 against Dodd and Robilliard having trailed 2-0. This result leaves the B side with a 5 point lead over their A side at the halfway point of the season.

Lions C remain in 4th position, however they secured a quality 7-3 win this week over the side above them in the table, Whistlers A. Joshua Butler is recovering well from a slow start to the league season and he was on point during this encounter with 3 singles wins. Having beaten Joshua Stacey in 4 games during his first match, he proceeded to power past Lawrence Stacey and Dawn Morgan in straight games. Alex Robinson was another player to go through the match unbeaten as he also overcame Lawrence and Morgan in 4 games and Joshua in 5 games, 12-10 in the 5th. The duo combined to overcome Morgan and Lawrence in a straight game doubles win. Andre De Carteret came very close to securing a big scalp this week whilst leading Lawrence 2-1. The 18 year old was struggling to cope with De Carteret's combination bat but managed to dig in and come through in 5.

Division 2

Whistlers D's 2 point lead remains intact after an emphatic 9-1 win over Lions F. Jez Powell and Albert Unden defeated Dave Finn, Rob Vile and Ken Tucknott in singles action before teaming up to defeat Vile and Tucknott in a 5 game doubles triumph. Ryan Bichard beat Vile and Tucknott, but lost out to Finn in straight games, a result which prevented the whitewash.

Division 3

Lions G secured another win this week as they overcame the challenge of St Pauls B 8-2. Jamie and Andrew Ferbrache beat Derek Carter, Brian Le Cras and Brandon Ferbrache in singles action. Sophie Ferbrache added a win over Brandon in 4 games on top of pairing with brother Jamie to see off Carter and Le Cras in a 4 game doubles win.

Division 4

Lions J continue to lead the way at the top of the 4th and they overcame from their Whistlers counterparts 8-2 this week. Sam Totty and Val Guilbert won all of their singles matches over Tom De La Rue, Joe Le Page and Erin De Carteret, however both were extended to 11-9 in the 5th by De La Rue. Diane Le Page beat Le Page and De Carteret but she lost to De La Rue in straight games. De La Rue tasted further success on the evening as he teamed with Le Page to impressively come past Totty and Guilbert in a 5 game doubles win.
