Evesham & District Table Tennis Association - Basepoint Division 1 Report

The top three in Evesham & District Basepoint Division 1 each picked up two wins in the latest round of matches. Leaders Littleton Positives beat Littleton Aces 9-1 and JLM Sunrisers 10-0. Nick Mytton and Doug Payne each won 6 from 6 for Positives. The solitary victory for Aces came when Dave Bevington beat Robert Poole.
Second placed Littleton Clubs had wins against JLM Dragonflies (10-0) and Kington Bulldogs (8-2). John Taylor and Craig Witheford were unbeaten across the two fixtures. The match against Bulldogs saw a first appearance of the season for Craig’s dad Sean Witheford. Witheford Senior lost to Malcolm MacFarlane and Andrew Smith but beat Steve Shaw.
JLM Owls are placed third in the table after wins against JLM Sunrisers (10-0) and JLM Dragonflies (7-3). Luke Moffat maintained his 100% record for the season with 3 wins against Dragonflies. Dragonflies’ Kevin Taylor won his other two matches, beating Keith Ferguson and Christopher Lane. Stephen Glazzard had one win for Dragonflies against Ferguson. Ferguson and Lane both beat Owls’ Ed Sommers.
There was a closely contested battle between two teams nearer the bottom of the table as the match between Kington Bulldogs and Bengeworth Purple finished in a 5-5 draw. Kate Hughes was Player of the Match for Purple with three wins. Purple’s Richard Bishop had victories against Andrew Smith and Ernie Smith but lost to Steve Shaw. All three of the Bulldogs team beat Aileen Phillips. Purple went into the doubles 5-4 up but Andrew and Ernie Smith levelled the match by beating Phillips and Hughes 3-1.
