With just one match remaining, Kington Blades are poised to win the Specsavers Division 1 title. Their latest victory came against Wyre Livewyres. Clive Irwin was the top player for Blades with 3 wins, all in straight sets. Blades need to avoid defeat in their final match against 5th placed Bengeworth Red to be sure of winning the league.
Bengeworth Red put in a strong performance this week to gain a draw against 3rd placed Littleton Positives. Red’s Jack Davis was undefeated and Chris Message was also impressive with 2 wins. This has been a confident first season in the top division for Message.
2nd placed Littleton Clubs kept up the pressure on Kington Blades with a 6-4 win over Littleton Aces. Clubs’ Dave Harvey was undefeated and remains the top player in the league. Alex Tomlinson also won 2 for Clubs. Andrew Taylor was on good form for Aces, taking a set from Dave Harvey and winning his other two matches.
Kington Bulldogs battled to a narrow 6-4 win against Bengeworth Purple. Andrew Smith was the difference between the two sides, beating all 3 opponents and combining with Ernie Smith to achieve a crucial straight sets doubles victory.
