The new Specsavers Division 2 season is underway. Last year’s champions Wallace House Troopers are looking strong again. Mandy Sylvester was Player of the Match in both of their opening fixtures with 6 straight wins as Troopers defeated both Littleton Giants and Wyre Barbedwyre. Stef Mytton and Ed Sommers also contributed 5 wins out of 6.
Littleton Dolphins had a tight battle with Littleton Giants which finished in a draw. Dolphins’ new player Alistair Witheford impressed with 3 wins, dropping only one set all evening. But Witheford met his match in Dolphins’ 7-3 defeat by Littleton Bears. Paul Bruner and Graham Jackson were both undefeated for Bears. Bruner was runner up in the individual Division 2 rankings last season and is sure to be a strong contender this year.
Wyre Warriors started the new season with an 8-2 win against Bengeworth Wolves. Michael Jones was the top performer for Warriors winning all his matches and combining with Ray Griffiths to defeat Timothy Willis and Paul Smith in the doubles. Bob Bryant won 2 matches for Wolves, ensuring his team salvaged a point from the fixture.
