Evesham & District Table Tennis Report for week ending 16th February 2014

Specsavers Division 1 leaders Bengeworth Lions suffered their first defeat of the season against title rivals Littleton Positives. Lions’ Jaspreet Singh maintained his season unbeaten record in the singles, but Positives’ Doug Payne and Yann Berthelemy each won 2 out of 3. Jack Davis and Singh came close to securing a draw for Lions when they went 1-0 up in the doubles but Berthelemy and Nick Mytton fought back to win in 5 sets.

Positives were also involved in a rearranged fixture with Kington Blades this week. Positives’ Nick Mytton put in a highly impressive performance, winning 3 out of 3 singles against tough opposition. However, the Berthelemy and Mytton combination was unsuccessful in the doubles on this occasion, as Blades’ John Price and Alan Cotton won in 5 sets to salvage a draw. Blades are currently in 4th place but with games in hand, they could be the strongest challengers to Bengeworth Lions at the top.

Elsewhere, Littleton club coach Ken Baker was back in action for the first time this year. Baker registered 3 out of 3 wins for Littleton Clubs in their victory over Kington Bulldogs.
