8th January 2019 Match Reports

 The latest round of matches in the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw Cwmbran Aztecs take advantage of one of their games in hand to take over top spot of Division One. The Aztecs secured an emphatic 27-7 win over Cardiff Nomads with Tony Collins achieving the player of the match with three wins. There were also three wins for Andrew Ryder and Mark Edmunds. For the Nomads Peter Gordon fought well for his four points.

The second match in Division One saw Blaenavon Aces move off the bottom of the division with a 20-15 win over Cwmbran Tigers. The Aces provided the player of the match in Ben Allen with his three wins and was well supported by Jon Allen with two wins and Iestyn Howells with one win. For the Tigers guest player Ray Goulding won two matches and Roshan Rai won one match. 

The battle for the top position in Division Two shows no sign of abating with Cwmbran Eccentrics currently holding a six point lead over North Gwent Cougars. In their latest match the Eccentrics had a surprisingly close match against  lowly Cwmbran Fellows which they won 19-16. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' John Thomas with two wins despite losing a tense final match of the night to Wayne Ford in five sets. Thomas was well supported by Ian Shipley with two wins and Lincoln Alford whose only win was a very good result against Wayne Ford. For the Fellows there were two wins for Wayne Ford and good wins for Mick Mellor and Peter Teichner over the higher ranked Alford.

North Gwent Cougars were able to score one more point than their rivals the Eccentrics with a 20-16 win over Cwmbran Dynamos.  For the Cougars Goran Karabar, Michel Policht and Sam Slatter all won two matches, but, they proved no match for the Dynamos' Alex Jones who won all his three matches.

The final match in Division Two saw Cwmbran Lions defeat Cwmbran Devils 21-14. Player of the match was the Lions' John Williams with two wins and he was well supported by Haydn Skinner and guest player Howard Gaut also with two wins. For the Devils there were two wins for guest player Yuri Cherkasenko and a good win for Finley McNeil over the higher ranked John Williams.
