13th March 2018 Match Reports

 With the Division One season having finished it is just Division Two that have the last few matches to complete in the Eastern Valley League. This week saw the top two sides in the division, Cwmbran Panthers and Cwmbran Dynamos battle it out to gain an advantage in the race for the title. It was the Panthers who extended their lead over the Dynamos with a 21-13 win. The situation at the top leaves the Panthers, one match remaining, with a 34 point lead over the Dynamos who have two matches to play. It would appear that the Panthers are in the driving seat. Player of the match was the Panthers Mike Blatchford who won all his matches. Blatchford was well supported by Howard Gaut with two wins and Yuri Cherkasenko with one win and six points. For the Dynamos Alex Jones battled well for his two wins and Richard Lownsbrough picked up one win and five points.

Fourth placed Cwmbran Devils maintained their position with a 21-12 win over Chepstow Chiefs.  Once again the Devils' Roshan Rai proved unstoppable in picking up the player of the match award. Rai was well supported by Colin Scott with two wins and Stan Williams with a single win and five points. For the Chiefs Connor Pyke picked up two wins and Elliot Kempton secured a single win. 

The final match saw Cwmbran Fellows defeat Cwmbran Eccentrics in a close battle 16-15. This match was noted for the return to league table tennis of John Williams after over 30 years absence. The Fellows' Wayne Ford collected the player of the match award with his maximum wins and was well supported by Haydn Skinner with his one win and five points. For the Eccentrics' Williams and Lincoln Alford picked up two wins each and Alan Howse had one win.
