21st November 2017 Match Reports

There are new leaders in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League after this weeks matches. Cwmbran Colts took over top spot after their 25-11 win over Blaenavon Aces. The Colts number one player, Lee Thomas, picked up his usual player of the match award with his 3 wins, but, he did drop his first set of the season to Ben Allen. Thomas was well supported by Lyndon Jones and Ben Pearce with their 2 wins. For the Aces Piotr Sniezek tried his best with his 2 wins and Ben Allen battled well for his 5 points.

Prior to this week the top two in Division One were Cwmbran Aztecs and Cwmbran Blues and they met each other. Unfortunately, both sides were missing some of their regular players with the Blues the most hit by withdrawals. Consequently, the Aztecs managed to gain a 21-13 win over the Blues thanks to a player of the match performance from Tony Collins with his 3 wins. Collins was well supported by Mark Edmunds with his 2 wins.  For the Blues Mark Farrow gained 2 wins.

The final match in Division One saw YMCA Preachers beat Bristol Nomads in a competitive match by 22-16. The Preachers were indebted to Ray Goulding in winning his first player of the match award this season with his 3 wins. Goulding was well supported by David Lloyd with his 2 wins and 7 points from Claire Flannagan in her first match of the season after maternity leave. For the Nomads Peter Gordon showed improved form after his slow start to the season with 2 wins.

In Division Two the top 2 sides Cwmbran Panthers and Cwmbran Dynamos battled out a 17-17 draw. The Panthers maintain their top position, however, the Dynamos do have a game in hand.  Player of the match was the Panthers Colin Price with his 3 wins. For the Dynamos Alex Jones and Richard Lownsbrough picked up 2 wins each.

Currently in third place are Cwmbran Eccentrics despite their 17-19 loss to Cwmbran Fellows. Player of the match was the Eccentrics' John Thomas with his 3 wins. Also for the Eccentrics, Alan Howse picked up his first win of the season when beating Mick Mellor. For the Fellows, Wayne Ford and the ever improving Haydn Skinner collected 2 wins each.

The final match in Division Two saw Cwmbran Devils beat Chepstow Chiefs in a close match 19-15. For the Devils Colin Scott just beat Stan Williams to the player of the match award with both players winning 2 matches each. For the Chiefs, Connor Pyke picked up 2 wins and there was a very good first win of the season for Matthew Bonvoisin when he beat Stan Williams.
