In Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League there was one match completed from last week between Cwmbran Colts and Cwmbran Aztecs which the Colts won 20 - 17. On paper the result looked unexpected, but, the Colts were able to field their number one Lee Thomas and call upon a substitute Ray Goulding to strengthen their side. The highlight of the match was Tony Collins inflicting a first defeat of the season over Lee Thomas by 3 - 1.
In this weeks matches in Division One Bristol Nomads all but clinched the title despite losing 12 - 21 to Cwmbran Aztecs. Cwmbran Blues have a game in hand but only have a mathematical chance of catching the Nomads.
After their fine win last week Cwmbran Colts came back down to earth when losing 8 - 26 to YMCA with Ray Goulding and Paul Booth both winning their 3 matches.
Before this weeks matches in Division Two the favourites for the title were Cwmbran Dynamos as they had a game in hand over their rivals. However, they only had 2 players for their match against Cwmbran Devils and although they still managed to win 16 - 14 it was less than the expected result.
The Dynamos result left the door open for Cwmbran Panthers to make their challenge for the title in their match against a weakened Cwmbran Eccentrics, which they won 25 - 5. This means the Panthers are 14 points ahead of the Dynamos with 2 games to play, but, the Dynamos have 3 games to play including a probable title decider against the Panthers next week.
The third placed team Blaenavon Aces also had an outside chance of challenging for the title, but, they fielded a weakened team to lose 19 - 14 to Cwmbran Fellows. However they could have a say in who wins the title as they have a match against the Dynamos in 2 weeks time.
