3rd FEBRUARY 2015 MATCH REPORT

In Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League the leaders Bristol Nomads took on the third placed side Cwmbran Aztecs. For the Nomads Brian Reeves was making his second appearance of the season and he continued his unbeaten run with 3 wins. However, despite this player of the match performance from Reeves, the Aztecs managed to draw the match 17-17 with a good all-round team performance.

In the other match in Division One Cwmbran Colts could not cope without their leading player and number one in the individual averages Lee Thomas and went down 9 - 23 to YMCA. For YMCA there was a player of the match performance from Ray Goulding with 3 wins backed up by 2 wins each for Eric Turner and Claire Flannagan, although they both lost to Nigel Gore.

In Division Two the leaders Blaenavon Aces had a free week which gave their closest rival Cwmbran Dynamos and Cwmbran Panthers the chance to utilise their game in hand. The Panthers' chance to take over top spot was scuppered before their match against Cwmbran Fellows with the withdrawal of 2 players including their number one Mike Blatchford. Therefore, it was no surprise when the Panthers were well beaten by Cwmbran Fellows 24 - 10 for whom Glenda Prytherch and Wayne Ford picked up 3 wins each.

The defeat for the Panthers left the door open for Cwmbran Dynamos to take the leaders 'yellow jersey'. This they did with a win 24 - 12 against Cwmbran Eccentrics. There was another player of the match performance from the Aztecs' Alex Jones with 3 wins ably backed up by Will Smith-Haddon with his 2 wins. For the Eccentrics there were good wins for Lincoln Alford and Peter Alderson over Alson Limbu.

The other match in Division Two saw the battle to avoid the 'wooden spoon' when the bottom 2 sides Cwmbran Devils and Blaenavon Bulldogs went head to head. It was the Devils who convincingly came out on top 25 - 5 with both Colin Scott and Stan Williams winning all their matches and Alan Miskelly picking up a surprise win against the higher ranked Jack Freegard.

Next week sees a break from League table tennis as it is the Semi-final of the Team Handicap. The sole representatives from Division One take on Blaenavon Aces from Division Two and there is an all Division Two battle between Cwmbran Eccentrics and Blaenavon Aces.
