In the first weekend of the Veterans Butterfly Team Championship of Wales Premier Division, both Eastern Valley 'A' & 'B' teams came away with 6 points from 5 matches. Ynys Mon lead the table with 8 points (4 wins and 1 loss).
Both Eastern Valley teams used 5 players each over the weekend. Their first matches were against each other and the 'B' side coming out on top 4-3, with Jonathan Allen making his Vets. debut for the 'B' team scoring a win over Tony Collins the No. 1 ranked Vets player in Wales. Jonathan had a very good weekend, despite nursing a back injury, including an excellent win against the highly ranked Tony Needham which helped the 'B' side to a 4-3 win against Cardiff 'B'. However the highlight of the weekend was the 'A' sides win over leaders Ynys Mon 'A' with Martin Gunn, using a hard bat, winning his 2 matches and the doubles. Mark Farrow also won his 2 matches after being behind in both matches. Both teams now head to North Wales in the new year for the final weekend of matches with a chance of winning the championship.
