Week Eleven Report

In Div One champions elect Cwmbran Blues once again showed why they have dominated the league this season by recording their eleventh straight win to remain unbeaten. Their latest win was over YMCA Preachers and was recorded despite being without their number one player and the leading player in the averages, Mark Farrow.  A player of the match performance from David Lloyd maintained his challenge for the number one spot in the averages. The Blues final match of the season against their nearest challengers Cwmbran Aztecs will decide whether Farrow or Lloyd will top the individual averages. I am sure the Aztec's Tony Collins will have a big influence on the outcome. In the other match in div. one, Cwmbran Aztecs all but sealed their runners up position by seeing off the challenge of North Gwent Steelers. In this match as in most matches this season the Steelers have been competitive, but have lacked a strong number 1 player to make a serious challenge.

In Div. Two Cwmbran Dynamos continue to dominate the division. The interest in their latest match against Cwmbran Fellows was the battle between the top 3 players in the division. The Dynamos Alex Jones and Alson Limbu against Wayne Ford of the Fellows. The first match was between Alex and Wayne and despite losing the first set Alex ground out a 3 sets to 1 win. The final game of the match was between Wayne and Alson and it was certainly a case of leaving the best to last as they had a ding dong battle throughout. It was Alson who came out on top coming back from 2 sets to 1 down to win 19-17 in the final set. These latest results sees Alex Jones taking over the number 1 spot in the div. 2 averages. The other 2 matches in the division saw Cwmbran Panthers record a narrow win against Cwmbran Devils due to a player of the match performance from Howard Gaut who won all his matches. The final match saw Cwmbran Eccentrics taking a big step towards their challenge for the runners up spot by a convincing win over Blaenavon Aces.
