Tournament Regulations

League rules:

15(a) All registered persons who reside permanently within the Borough of Eastbourne shall be eligible to compete in the Closed Championships.

15(b) Any other persons, to be eligible, should normally be registered players in the league and have played a minimum of four matches in the current season by the closing date. The League Council shall have discretion where this qualification has not been reached.

5(f) The League Council may delegate any of its duties or powers to sub-committees … [it has done so here to the Closed Championships’ Organising Committee]

Supplementary rules:

1. All decisions by the Organising Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

2. Every entrant must be an affiliated member of the Eastbourne & District Table Tennis League.

3. All entrants undertake to conform to the rules of the Eastbourne & District Table Tennis League and Table Tennis England.

4. White or light coloured clothing, which makes visibility of the ball difficult, is prohibited.

5. Entrants are expected to umpire and must do so when requested by the organisers. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification from this and future events.

6.  The individual match umpire’s decision on any points of fact will be final. The Organising Committee takes the role of Tournament Referee and any decision on any points of law will be final.

7. Events may be cancelled if the Organising Committee considers there are insufficient entries [the typical minimum entry shall be four].

8. It is intended that consolation events will be held for the Men’s Singles, Ladies’ Singles and Men’s doubles. The exact format and entry qualification will be determined by the Organising Committee.

9. Where entrants put ‘partner wanted’ for doubles’ events the Organising Committee will select partners, where possible, by ballot.

10. Divisional singles championships are for Divisions 2 and 3 only.

11. The Organising Committee may, at its discretion, create a ‘reserve list’ with the following priority: (i) ‘partner wanted’ entries who missed out, (ii) those who missed the closing date. Any reserve replacements who would have been seeded for an event if included in the original draw cannot take the place of any entrants who would have been seeded with a higher number than them (e.g. number 8 seed cannot be replaced by someone who would have been seeded 5).

12. Entrants will contact the organisers if they have to withdraw from the Championships.

13. Age limits: Juniors must be born after 2000 (i.e., from 1 Jan 2001 onwards), cadets after 2003, under 12s after 2005.

Once the draw and schedule have been completed, the organisers will email scheduled start times to participants.
