Eagles v Energy

A game featuring some of the youngest players in the league ended up a tight affair. Energy gave a debut to Harver Wright, who joined father and son combo Alan and Patryk Nicholson while Eagles featured Luke Dumighan, Becca Harrison and in only her third game Toni Wong. Alan took all his singles and in a very tight doubles combined with Patryk to take the doubles against Luke and Becca. Luke gave a solid performance and took his final match, a very close affair with Patryk 3-2. Patryk took two and Toni won her first match in a close game against the debutant Harvey Wright who put up a good show and did Brandon proud. Final score 6-4 to Brandon Energy.

Bombers v Thompson B

Yet another competitive match for Bombers against the very experienced Thompson B side of Maurice Cheek, Mark O’ Connor and Lynn Herrington. The result did not reflect the closeness of the games which went on well past 10.00 with 6 being 4 or 5 enders. Dan Hutchinson with his attacking style played well to beat ‘Stonewall’ Maurice. And Ian McPherson had a great game with Maurice only going down in the final end 11-13 but did manage to beat Lynn in another 5 ender, but Mark was MVP on the night winning all his games. Only Nigel Coe for Bombers didn’t win but most of his games went to 2 points, but Thompson came away with 8 points in an 8-2 victory.

East Boldon Amigos v Comets

The ‘rebranded’ Amigos have a strong squad and should be vying for promotion at the end of the season and turned out the experienced Neil Wilkinson Jeff Hope with one of their talented youngsters, Jamie Collins. Comets travelled with Colin Pritchard the improving Kevin Richardson and Peter Whitfield. Neil took MVP with three very strong singles with only Colin troubling him and keeping games close. Jamie also took three with his powerful attacking play but Kevin took a singles game and ‘Lucky’ Whitfield had the table advantage with nets and edges and also took a game giving an 8-2 win to the Amigos.
