Comets v East Boldon

Comets are hoping to be among the front runners for promotion and got off to an excellent start with a convincing win against East Boldon. With the regulars of Debbie and Nikki Irwin with Colin Pritchard, they put in a sound performance with Colin and Nikki wining three games each and Debbie winning 2 and with Colin and Nikki winning the doubles they ran out 9-1 winners East Boldon got only Bruce Davison on the score sheet but both Jim Collier and Jordan Dove put in some excellent work but were unfortunate in not winning any matches.

Bombers v West A

After just missing out on promotion last year to the new extended 1st division Bombers are determined to get closer this year and were up against one of their tougher opponents from last West B. Bombers have drafted in Max Duffin to this year’s squad and with captain Dan Hutchinson and the ever reliable Dan Nicholson, they were up against Mick Lyons, Dave Thompson and Dave Barber. Dan Hutchinson started the match against Dave Thompson and comprehensively beat him as he went on to his player of the match of performance as Bombers closed out all the games. There were some very competitive individual games but West had no answer to the power of Max and Dan Hutchinson and the guile and consistency of Dan Nicholson losing 10-0

Redby B v Desperadoes

Desperadoes were up against the Redby b team who have just come down from the second division. Redby included one of the most consistent players in any division Howard Forster, supported by the evergreen Ron Douglas and relative newcomer Firdav Mohammad. Desperadoes were with regulars John Reid, Michael Lishman and junior Chris Jennings. Desperadoes got off to a good start with Michael Lishman beating Howard Forster but that was the only Sacriston success as the Redby experience came through and they took the rest of the games, the closest match was the doubles with the Redby team pushed all the way before eventually pulling through and they ended up 9-1 winners.

East Boldon B V Eagles

This game was a taster of the league in the future with two junior teams battling it out.

Eagles had Jack Pugh, Haydn Williamson and Luke Dumighan against three juniors in their first league match, Ben Franco, Jamie Collins and David Byers. Eagles were off to a flyer with the first two wins but Jamie Collins came back in a strong performance to take the third and Dave Byers took the fourth to take it to 2-2. In the doubles East Boldon played two different players with R Armitage and J Ford putting up a tremendous performance against the more experienced Haydn and Jack. After losing the first end however Haydn and Jack came back to win 3-1. With Luke and Jack winning the next 2 games, Eagles had a 5-3 lead going into the final three, but with Jamie and David winning the next two it was up to the last match to decide the result. Player of the match Jack came through to give Eagles a hard fought 6-4 victory in a match played in a tremendous but competitive spirit, well done to both teams.

Changes to Teams and Squads

It is with great regret that we have to tender the resignation of Chargers from the league. After looking at various combinations of players combined with availability and ability it would be impossible to turn out a competitive Chargers team in the 2nd Division. We hope to transfer the following players to the following teams

Kevin Anderson – Desperadoes

Terry Charlton – Comets

Peter Whitfield – Eagles

Dennis Jennings – Desperadoes
