Bombers v East Boldon

This was the return fixture form the beginning of the season and East Boldon were hoping to put on a better show than the first game. Thy turned out the same team of Neil Wilkinson, Tom Fowle and Geoff McKenna, while Bombers changed their squad again to bring in Ian McPherson and Nigel Coe to partner Max Duffin. Both Max and Neil went unbeaten to the last game of the night leaving their match the decider for MVP. Max struggled against the persistent returning of Neil but eventually won 3-1 and with Ian and Nigel winning one each and Ian and Max taking the doubles Bombers struggled through to a 6-4 victory maintaining their lead at the top.

Comets v Desperadoes

The inter-club derby gave a competitive night of games with Comets desperate to stay on the tail of the runaway 2 teams at the top of the league. Debbie Irwin is starting to return to her attacking best with a number of stunning forehand drives that gave the opposition little chance as she took MVP by winning all her singles, She was backed up by the reliable pair of Colin Pritchard and Matt Greenwood who took two games each and with Colin and Debbie winning the doubles Comets took 8 points. For the Desperadoes, Kevin Richardson with his dour defence managed to beat both Colin and Matt, while Dennis Jennings had a cracking game with Colin before going down in the final end. Nigel played some consistent play especially against Debbie and took ends off all the players but couldn't complete a victory leaving Desperadoes with 2 points.

Redby B v Sacriston Eagles
League leaders Redby included their top of the stats pairing of Howard Foster and Firdaus Nazeri along with consistent Ron Douglas. The Eagles had the up and coming youngsters of Jack Pugh and Haydn Williamson but with regular Luke Dumighan unavailable drafted in stonewall Peter Whitfield. Earlier in the season Eagles had lost 10-0 but anyone coming in on the match would find it difficult to believe that top were playing 10th. Neither of the youngsters were fazed by the opposition and some tremendous matches took place. Both Howard and Firdaus took three matches but all of the Sacriston team won a game each and only last the doubles in the last end going down 7-3.

Aces v Thompson A

League winners for the past 10 seasons and unbeaten this season Thompson A brought regulars Chris Blake, Allan Thompson, and Diane Cartmel, against Sacriston Aces, who turned out a full strength team with the indomitable Waldemar Dzwonkowski, Ian McAllister and Duncan Fraser. Waldemar played his usual game and won all three singles giving him the MVP. He was backed up by both Ian and Duncan winning two, but Aces couldn't capitalise on the doubles with Chris and Allan victorious but it still left Aces with the sweet taste of victory in a 7-3 win.

Last Weeks Results

Week 12 Results Half way through the season

Excellent performance by Aces to beat Thompson, only their second defeat in the last 4 seasons. Aces are comfortable in the Sunderland first division while they are comfortably at the top of Div 2 in the Northumberland league. Max maintains his unbeaten tag in Division 2 and he and Dan are the force behind Bombers being top of the second division. Comets are competing as promotion contenders at the top of the third. Desperadoes are going through changes but are settling into a consistent team giving all opposition a tough time led by newcomer Kevin Richardson. The youthful Eagles are giving all teams a tough time highlighted by a well fought 3 points against runaway Div 3 leaders Redby and will definitely not be vying for the wooden spoon. Well done to them all
