Lanchester B V Desperadoes

Desperadoes results have been picking up recently and they have moved up the league but this was a game against 4th placed Lanchester B. John Reid, and the father and son combo of Nigel and Sam Duffin travelled to play Adam Butler, Tom Firth and Lyndsey Beacham for Lanchester B. Adam Butler took player of the match  by winning all the singles for Lanchester. Sam did best for Desperadoes winning two but only Nigel could help him with a win to help Desperadoes to one point in a 7-3 defeat.

Sonics v Blazes

Three youngsters from Sacriston, Luke Dumighan, Chris Jennings and Joel England were up against three youngsters form Brandon Blazes, Cameron Howe, Abbey Maddison and Corey Haslam .

The games were entertaining with free flowing table tennis played with neither side playing defensive but both going for all out attack. Abbey and Cameron won two each and Corey won one but Luke Dumighan’s dynamic play gave him player of the match winning all his three and with Joel winning one the result went 6-4 to Blazes.

Chargers v Silksworth B

Chargers were looking for maximum points to keep the pressure on the top two teams in the league and got off to the perfect start with Max Duffin  beating Chris Wold and Peter Whitfield beating John Foster. However Miroslav  Godlewski beat Terry Charlton to reduce the arrears, this however was the only blip for the Chargers with rapidly improving Max taking his next two singles even though Miroslav made him work hard and the most boring player in the league Peter Whitfield sent both of his other opponents to sleep to win his singles. Max and Peter beat John and Miroslav in the doubles, and with Terry winning his remaining two the score was 9-1 to Chargers giving them all 4 points.

East Boldon B v Eagles

The rest of the league could take examples of how to play entertaining sporting table tennis with no tantrums or sulks from this excellent game between East Boldon B and the Eagles team containing 2 13 year olds Jack Pugh and Oliver King and one 14 year old Oliver Turnbull. East Boldons very talented cadet Peter Smallcombe proved unstoppable as he beat all of the Eagles players in 3 ends and also contributed to the doubles win with Jim Collar. Oliver Turnbull and Jack Pugh beat William Walton, Jack coming back from losing the first end to win 3-1. Oliver King can count himself unlucky with his attacking forehands but couldn’t cope with the back hand chops of William and Jim. The game of the night was between the craft and backspin chops of Jim Collar against the measured approach of Oliver Turnbull with the game going to the fifth end and Oliver putting his final drive into the net to go down 11-8. Game result 8-2 to East Boldon giving them all 4 points.

Silksworth A V Bombers

Silksworth A with the experienced Howard Brown, Alan Bickle and Graham Sleep were up against second placed Bombers who are starting to put some good results especially when exciting youngster Dan Hutchinson is playing. He was joined by regulars Dan Nicholson and Ian McPherson. Howard started well with a win against Ian McPherson but Dan Hutchinson beat Graham in 3 ends to level but with Alan beating Dan Nicholson it needed Ian to beat Graham in a long 5 ender to tie the match. The doubles went to 5 ends but Dan and Ian came through easily in the final end. Game of the night was Howard and Dan Nicholson which had close games, tactical reserved play and plenty of power play with Howard taking it 3-2. Nobody was going to beat Dan Hutchinson who underlined his improving thoughtful play against varying styles to take all his singles giving him player of the match and Bombers a 6-4 win and a valuable 3 points in their quest for promotion.

Sported Grant   Absolutely fantastic news

John Spencer had put a bid into the Sporting Charity Organisation Sported for £2000 for new tables for Kimblesworth and it has been granted £100 through the Sported Fund and £1000 through the Durham County Community Foundation. There are terms to the grant but the club is determined to meet these in the drive to enhance facilities especially for our rapidly increasing Junior members.
