Two of Draycott’s top Under 11 stars Connor Green and Anna Green were selected to represent the England Primary Schools team in the British Primary Schools Championships held in Cardiff.
Connor and Anna are both ranked No.1 in England at Under 11 so were both heading the English challenge in the team event.
Anna won an impressive 7/10 matches - winning 2 matches against Isle of Man, Scotland and Guernsey and one against Wales but lost both her matches to the very strong Ireland team and the team won the Silver medal behind Ireland.
In the Individual event Anna progressed through the group stage and then beat Scotland’s Amelia Smolareck 3-0 but eventually lost in the Quarter Final to the Irish No.2 Alannah O’Flynn 3 games to 1
Connor won a terrific 8/10 matches in the team event winning 2 matches against Isle of Man, Scotland and Guernsey and one against both Wales and Ireland.
The key match was against Ireland where England found themselves 4-2 down but fought back to win 6-4 and take the Team Gold medal.
In the Individual event Connor was looking to match Draycott’s Poww Boonyaprapa who the previous year won Gold. Connor progressed through his group and then beat Scotland Jamie Johnson at the last 16 stage and then beat England’s Toby Elis to reach the semi-final. Here Connor faced England No.3 at Under 12 from South Yorkshire – Adam Szabo and this was a very close match with Connor winning 11-9 in the 4thend.
This set a up a final meeting with Welsh star Louie Evans who had beaten the top two Irish players en route to the final. However it was not to be as the Welsh player ran away with the match to take Gold and leaving Connor to take home the Silver Medal.
