Review of Womens British League

Review of WomensBritishLeagueBristolUniversity10th and 11th October 2015

Last weekend Draycott fielded four teams in the first Women’s British League weekend held in Bristol and despite problems with illness and injury which saw the squad lose four of its players all the players put in an outstanding performance to finish in the top two positions in three divisions.

Former Latvian International – Inta Zdanovska played up in the 1st team as England No. 2 Tin-Tin Ho was suffering with an ankle injury and not available to make the event. However Inta won 9/10 matches to propel the team to the top position in the league. Her teammates England No.4 Emma Vickers from Borrowash also won 9/10 and Chellaston’s Abbie Milwain (Ranked No.6) won 7 matches.

With a three point lead and Tin-Tin set to play over the 2nd weekend then they look nailed to win their Club’s first ever Women’s Premier Division title having been runners-up on four previous occasions.

The second team in Division 1 had to acquire the services of 3rd team player Nicole Bird who played brilliantly to win all ten matches. The teams 3rd player – Latvia’s No. 2 senior player Diana Rusinova won a steady 6 matches after taking on the responsibility as the team’s No.1.

The Division 3 team also suffered problems as Isabelle Joubeily had been called up to an England Junior camp, Amy Humphreys suffered an arm injury in training and Nicole was already playing up in the 2nd team so the team had to play without it top three players but Lauren Evans and Bhavika Mistry with help a little help from our 4th team players quite unbelievably finished in runners-up and so are still in contention for the title when the second weekend is held in April.

The 4th team had Draycott Club coach Christina Wright supporting club members Aimee Evans and Molly Hancock and also Welsh U/11 Champion Anna Hursey. 9-year-old Anna impressed everyone with a series of mature performances winning 5/6 matches in Div.5 and 2/4 matches in Div.3 and earned herself the coveted “Player of the Weekend” Award.

Some of our squad players, Inta, Diana, Amy, Lauren, Naphat, Poww, Jack & Joe also compete regularly in the local Derby Table Tennis League and anyone interested in learning to play then look up the websites for the Derby & District Table Tennis League or the Draycott & Long Eaton Table Tennis Club for more details
