Devon Veterans Div 3 Report

Pat Lyon has sent us the following report from the Devon Veterans Div 3 team:

The task of looking for new players to represent the County fell to me. From last year Wim Faassen from N Devon was willing to carry on and I knew Mike Kiff of Exeter was keen to play having reached the qualifying age last year. I still had to find another person and Ian Callard of Exeter was very pleased to be asked.

Our first match back in October was in Cornwall. Unfortunately Ian injured himself during the week and had to pull out. I contacted Kevin Taylor of N Devon and he kindly stepped in at short notice for us to fulfill the fixture. We lost to Cornwall 6-4 and lost to Somerset 6-4.

In December we went to Reading and we played Hampshire 2 and Berkshire 3. Ian was now able to take his place in the team. We lost 6-4 against Hants and won 6-4 against Berks.

At the end of February we went to Christchurch and we played against Somerset 3. We won 9-1, and against Dorset 3 we won 8-2.

By now as a team we were starting to jell together and everyone had a very good time.
Wim won 5/12, Mike won 9/12 and Ian won 4/8, and myself I won 3/6. When it comes to the doubles we have a good combination both in the Mixed and Mens doubles. Mixed 9/12, Mens won 4/6.
