POSSIBLE CHANGES TO LEAGUE STRUCTURE AND DERBY CLOSED TOURNAMENT

At a recent Committee Meeting of the association there was a discussion on changes to the structure of the leagues. One suggestion made was to have a play-off at the end of the season to determine which teams are relegated or promoted. It was felt that this would add a bit more interest to the end of the season, as happens in several sports. This could involve the 2nd and 3rd placed teams playing off, or, possibly the next to bottom team from a division playing the 2nd team from the division below. This could happen at the teams’ venues or we could have a play-off evening at a suitable venue for all divisions.

We also discussed possible changes to the Derby Closed Tournament, and one idea was to make competitions open to men and women and not to have separate women’s and men’s tournaments.

Before any changes are made for the 2012-13 season we would like comments from the membership, for or against, before we raise the ideas at the AGM later in the year. Send any comments to me or any other Committee member.
