December 2018 Newsletter

Club Chatter

Seasonal greetings!   Just to let you know that the Club will not be open on Monday 24th and Monday 31st December.  The Club will therefore be open again on Monday 7th January.

Club Nights are well supported by our juniors and it’s great that some of their parents are now coming regularly.  The ratings are popular and create a lot of interest.

Bromley League

This season has been a disappointing one for three of our four teams for various reasons.  Both the A in Division 1 and the C in Division 3 can’t sink any lower and the B, also in Division 3 needs to get a few more wins to avoid the drop.

Sevenoaks League

In Division 1 the A (Terry McKee, Alan Longhurst, Peter Davis) barring injury look likely to win the Division.

For the second year the STTL ran two Junior Development Divisions which have been a huge success.   It has attracted many youngsters for whom it has been the first taste of competition.   The standard of both Development Divisions is surprisingly high and augurs well for all the clubs participating and the STTL itself.

Janet’s Juniors

We now have two teams in the National Junior League at Brighton and two in the National Cadet League at Morpeth.

Prior to the first meeting of the NJL Joe Gillhouley sustained a severe injury to his playing arm wrist and Joe Tickner was unavailable so Tommy Cowling was promoted to the A team joining Eddie Gillhouley and Henry Morrell.  The team had originally been placed in Division 1 but, recognising the strength of that Division, were reallocated to Division 2, where they just managed to avoid relegation.  The B were therefore down to three players, Ben Forrester, Ben McKay and Felipe Fujimore who had to play all the five matches.  They had a tough time and only Ben McKay managed to win the only set for the team in the very last match of the day. However, experience playing at this level is bound to bring its rewards.

World Championship of Ping Pong

This popular event will be run on 26th and 27th January at Alexander Palace, London, and will be shown live in its entirety on the SkySports channel.
