The 2016/17 Crewe and District Table Tennis League fixtures got underway this week, in Division 1 Bentley Travel Visa recorded the biggest win a 10 – 0 whitewash of Foxes with Chris Bailey, Alan Marchant and Will Haynes all too strong for the opposition. Elsewhere, PO Dragons gained an 8 – 2 win over Stags with Alan Darlington and Simon Lafferty unbeaten and Kidsgrove gained a narrow 6 – 4 win against PO Tigers with Paul Oltean putting in a man of the match display whilst two wins from Alan Shaw kept things close. The other result saw Elks gain a 6 – 4 win over PO Eagles thanks to a maximum from James Courtney and a brace of wins from Steve Tizard.
In Division 2, Cobras have started well with a 9 – 1 win against Bears with Barrie Morgan and Barry Pountain both on good form and Dave Stubbs securing a pair of wins. Lynx got their season off with an 8 – 2 win over Wolves with Chris Harris on top form and Rob Richards and Tau Manonge both hitting a brace of wins, the other match played saw Bobcats and Panthers play out a 5 – 5 draw with a Braden Jones maximum for Panthers being the stand out display whilst Douggie Muirhead’s pair of wins helped the Bobcats to the draw.In Division 3, biggest win of the week came from Stoats who had Connor Riddell, Chris Tulip and Ben Wright all on top form in a 9 – 1 win against Rheas. Sloths also started with a win, 8 – 2 against Polecats with Rob Miller and Phil Roy both on form and Water Rats gained 7 – 3 victory over the leagues newbies Worleston Woodpeckers with John Tweats and Nick Tomlinson showing their greater experience. The other match played between Lion Cubs and Pumas resulted in a 5 – 5 draw with a Dennis Artess maximum helping Pumas cause but two wins each from Ed Pettitt and Cameron Mcglincy went someway to leveling the match.
