In an eagerly awaited clash between the top two sides Blades A and Foresters A spectators were treated to some high quality table tennis,Josh Bennett defeated Mark Collins and Dan Pound both in straight games,George Hazell repeated the feat as did Martin Gunn albeit in five games against Mark. Craig Bryant having won his first two matches with ease met Josh in the final match of the evening,Josh is currently 5 on the national Junior ranking list and 41 in seniors while Craig is currently 11.In the first two games Josh was counter hitting brilliantly on both wings and took a deserved 2-0 lead.Craig had to change something to claw his way back,he kept the ball much tighter and moved Josh around and on many occasions when he opened up with a big hit the ball did not come back.Craig levelled at two games all and in the fifth from 1-3 down he ran out the winner 11-8,a great match between the two best players in the league.This 6-3 win puts Blades on 106 points sixteen clear of Foresters.
At the other end of the table Crawley Sports A handed out a drubbing to bottom side Copthorne A,Old JR won his three as expected but was pushed to five by Chris Pullinger.Stuart Brooks lost another close one deuce in the fifth to Sally Henke.Joe Comper who has been working overtime trying to keep Crawley FC in the league was man of the match winning all of his three straight,9-0 to Sports which leaves Copthorne 13 adrift at the foot of the table.
Smiling Adam Daley had an even broader one after another defeat of Rory Scott in five.Marc Burman was in imperious form beating Adam in four rubbing it in with an 11-0 in the fourth.He beat Gerry Pugh and Gary Bonner while Rory won two beating Bonzo in five and Gerry,all the Foresters players beat Alan Stone,5-4 to Spinners.
Crawley Community A secured third spot at the halfway point with a comfortable win over Blades B,Tom Kinga(making his Premier debut),old stager Tony Catt and young Joelle Bennett,Tony recovered from 2-0 down against Phillo who managed to start getting returns back on the table in the fifth to edge home.Surprisingly Paul Carter won the MOM award two weeks in a row.Barrie Gilbert won three also for a 9-0 win.
Crawley Community gained a much needed win over Horsham A,Graham Faulkner won well three straight versus namesake Barnes and Graham Green with a few expletives aimed at the **** of a net went down deuce in the fifth to Digger.Barnes also beat Paul Newton in three games while Steve Hoad had a good night winning against Faulkner and Newton.Graham Green beat Steve and Tat on Man who was playing up,5-4 to Community.
Young Robert Pelc had a fine three straight win over Tony Steel in the Blades C/Foresters B encounter,Michael Bridger recovered from two nil down to defeat experienced campaigner Mike Robinson,he also beat James Wheatley who also went down to Teresa Bennett in five.5-4 to ForestersB.
A strange match between Foresters E and Foresters C saw Rebecca George go down in all three matches despite leading ODS 2-0 in games before losing,Phil Nicholls continued his excellent form winning three.Kate Cheer and Alice Hazell scored the E teams only points with good wins over Luke Gallagher,7-2 to the Cs.
