A Tense Encounter as Blades Meet Foresters in Senior British League

It was a very tense encounter for all when Blades A took on Foresters A in the Senior British League National B division this weekend.

With both teams winning their first 3 matches of the weekend round, Blades knew they had a tussle to look forward to in the afternoon when they faced local rivals Foresters. Both teams were boosted by the appearance of their respective star players this weekend and Isaac Nyheim put Blades one up beating Matt Spero in three.  Martin Svensson just got home 11-9 in the fifth against Gustav Farlen to even, and then George Hazell won a terrific 5 setter against Daniel Pound. Mark Collins beat Fredrick Nilsson in four and the two Doubles played midway in this format were also shared.

At 3-3 it was time for the much anticipated clash of both teams number ones, Svensson v Nyheim.

Isaac started well but Martin hit back, making it two ends all with superb play from both the players. Martin had developed a 9-6 lead in the fifth when Isaac called a Time Out, composed himself and took the next 4 points. The Iceman as he has proved when playing in the Crawley League held his nerve though, stringing together winners to edge it 13-11.

By now the Blades supporters were concerned but George Hazell just got the better of Matt Spero 11-9 in the fifth to level it once again 4-4. It was getting late, so the Referee took the decision to finish the match on two tables and the tension then subsided. Now using  adjacent tables Gustav beat Mark Collins and Fredrick sealed the win beating Dan, both these games three straight.

A fantastic match, Blades winning 6-4, The Iceman Svensson Undefeated.
