The two Division 1 heavyweights Blades C and Spinners B went head to head last night for the Christmas number 1 spot ! And it was Blades who gave their rivals a bloody nose with a fantastic 9-1 win in a thrilling match at Trinity.
Reputations and unbeaten records were on the line and the match lived up to its billing with a match full of deuce games and five-setters with Blades dominating the big moments of the match.
Spinners youngster Charlie Graham-Adams and the experienced Alan Stone both put in a hard shift but ended up with nothing to show for their three matches with all of Charlie's matches going to five ends.
Tom Pomej recorded the only Spinners notch with a tough five-set win over Michael Bridger, surviving a match point in the fourth end.
Classy Blades Junior Ryszard Pelc and a fired up Erik Van-Mol both notched up full houses with fine performances and Bridger contributed a further two.
The doubles ended the evening in the same vein as the match unfolded - Alan Stone andTom Pomej stormed into a 2-0 lead but were pegged back in five by Bridger and Van-Mol.
An excellent result for the Blades side in what was a very hard fought contest.
