In an encouraging set of results this week , Colebridges Division One teams both achieved draws , after a dismal set of results.
Whilst not yet winning matches , these outcomes at least give occasion for optimism.
Colebridge Dinosaurs hosted Streetly C on Monday , a team comprising Mike Standen , Colin Oakes and John Waters. Dan Ranford led the way for the Dinosaurs with a treble which included five set victories over both Oakes and Standen , and he was ably supported by Jim Connor whose brace secured a share of the points. Brian Morris was again unlucky, on the wrong end of a five set defeat against Waters , and picking up sets against Standen and Oakes.
Once again it was the indominatable Oliver who starred for the Eagles beating both Watts and Ng , and , crucially , playing an unaccustomed defensive role in the doubles , digging adroitly to set up the magisterial Kakar forehand.
Dr Kakar made a splendid Colebridge debut with a powerful display of forehand top spinning , his victory over Ng being his first on British soil , and surely to be the first of many in what is to be hoped is a long and successful Colebridge career. His performance in the doubles win, over Bournville regulars Kendall and Watts , was key ; giving the Eagles the impetus to record their hard fought draw.
