Last seasons Division Two champions, Colebridge Eagles, made their Division One debuts on Monday night , which was memorable for another tour de force performance from septuagenarian Bernard Oliver.
The man who has been in receipt of a bus pass for over fifteen years was in uncompromising mood , with another eye catching treble , which was in no small part responsible for earning Eagles a draw.
Supported by Mike Evetts and Mahroof Hussain , who both chalked a single win , The Eagles reached the doubles in a 3-1 winning position but faltered , losing the doubles to Dan Ranford and Brian Morris of Colebridge Dinosaurs.
Dan Ranford was The Dinosaurs leading man ,with a brace , whilst Jim Connor beat Eagles debutant Hussain in one of the only two straight sets wins of the evening. Morris defeated Evetts 12-10 in the fifth end for his win.
The number of sets played ensured the match finished well after 11 o'clock , leaving no time for The Colebrook hostelry , but we were handsomely fortified with a fine selection of fondant fancies courtesy of Pat Oliver , for which many thanks.
