Colebridge Lions roared to Jim Whitehead Cup success at their home venue yesterday evening.
The all Colebridge final was staged at the Theatre of Dreams.
Dreams turned to reality as strong favourites and current Div 3 runners-up, Hawks, came a cropper against bottom of Div 5 Lions, thanks mainly to 13 year old "Mini chopper" Todd Marshall. With a handicap of 32, Lions had to win 3 games and roared ahead from the start, when Todd took 2 off John Cox. He followed that with one more off both Mick and Chris Welsh. Not to be outdone, Luke Truman added one against Chris to complete a 37-31 victory.
No one was more pleased than Lions' Jean Helme who had to withdraw with an injured shoulder after her first set. For all 3, a medal in their first season of competitive and Cup play can't be bad. - NPW
