CALCULATION OF GROUP RANKING
Points are awarded for each match on the following basis:-
a) 2 points to the winning team
b) 1 point to the losing team
c) Where a game is conceded then the conceding team receives 0 points and their opponents receive 2 points.
When all the points have been awarded on the above basis the team with the most points is declared the winner, the team with the next highest points total is declared in second place and so on for all the places within the group.
If when all the points have been allocated as above two teams have the same number of points then the relative position of the teams will be decided on the result of the match between them. The winning team being allocated the higher place.
If after the allocation of the points as in paragraph 1 more than two teams are equal on points, then the points allocation shall be redone but ignoring any results against teams who are not involved in the determination of these positions.
If after the calculations in paragraph 4 the teams are still equal then the relevant positions shall be determined on the basis of the ratio of games won against games lost. The team having the best ratio receiving the highest position and so on.
If after the calculations in paragraph 5 the teams are still equal then the relevant positions shall be determined on the basis of the ratio of points won against points lost. The team having the best ratio receiving the highest position and so on.
If after completing the calculations specified in paragraph 6 there is still a tie for two or more places then it is necessary to return to the procedures specified in paragraphs 3 onwards until all the positions are resolved.
If there are any other positions within the group where more than one team is tied on points then the procedures specified in paragraphs 3 onwards shall be followed until all the positions within the group have been allocated.
If after all the above procedures have been followed there are still tied positions that could not be sorted using all the above then these shall be solved by the casting of lots.
